Brooklyn Experimental Media Center (BxmC)

A monster's body has parts that belong to different species. The Brooklyn Experimental Media Center (BxmC) is a monster, combining elements from very different kinds of creative and research cultures, skills, and tools.

Every night and day, we find new ways to make available technologies do new things for artists, communities, and creative professionals; on a regular basis, finding that the current tools just won't do something important or delightful, we modify/extend/replace those technologies with new ones.

Are we artists? engineers? activists? That's not what matters. An engineer who understands the human reality of what it's going to be like to live with the consequences of their work, and that it's not enough to just take the brief as it comes because they are on a payroll, is just as necessary as an artist who can make sense of the effects and side-effects of new media of production, distribution, and reception on the broader culture they are messing with.

We work in real time, at the changing limits of audio, video, 3D graphics, game engines, web, mobile, and interaction design. As a creative engine in a science and technology institution in New York City (of which Brooklyn has a lot of the fun parts), we can host monster projects, and monster teams, and do things you have to get together to even imagine.

Work with us.
