assignment 1:
due in class, september 15th
using audacity, make me a one-minute-ish sound piece using only the things under the Generate menu as source material. don't record anything into the computer; don't use any samples; don't use any effects from the Effects menu; don't use any other software to make the piece (though you can use iTunes to turn it into an mp3 if you want later). just create tracks, make noise using the generators, cut, copy, paste, etc. turn it into an mp3 and have it ready for me on tuesday.

assignment 2:
due in class, october 1st
using any DAW you can get your hands on (audacity, ardour, pro tools, soundtrack pro), make me a one-minute-ish sound piece using only spoken voice; don't use any samples or synthesizers; use effects if you want, but try to focus on the recording of the voice and trying to make something interesting. turn it into an mp3 and have it ready for me on thursday.

assignment 3:
due in class, october 22nd
A mash-up is a musical form the consists of blending two or more samples so that they fit together as a new composition. Using some choice selections from your music library, try to make one. It has to use:
- at least two samples,
- some sort of time-stretch to make them synchronize,
- some sort of pitch-transposition (if necessary) to make them sound good together.
Try to get it so that you can get a whole song synched up that way. It can be pop-oriented or avant-garde. For some inspiration, check out the wikipedia link above.

assignment 4:
due in class, november 17nd
Record something out in the field (outside, in your apartment, on the subway, in the hallways of metrotech). Make something with the recording that uses the sounds you've captured in a creative way. It should be at least one minute long, and should contain some editing and processing of the sound.
